Gold Screw Post Removal
Dr.Batniji demonstrates a technique for gold post screw removal through a PFM crown on a maxillary cuspid. First the porcelain is removed with a round diamond bur. The metal layer is then removed with a carbide bur. Once the post location is identified, removal of crown structure occlusal to the post must be completed giving clear visibility to the top of the post. The bulky head portion of the gold screw post is then reduced circumferentially allowing for rotation. As demonstrated in the video, clockwise directional application of the ultrasonic tip does not allow the post to "unscrew". Once the directional application is changed to that of counter clockwise, the post is elevated out of the crown.
